John MacArthur on the Emergent Church

Paul Washer Sermon Summary

Ravi Zacarias - Sin

Is This You?

You look at a beautiful painting and you say to yourself, “There must have been a painter.”

You look at a motor vehicle of great workmanship and you say to yourself, “There must have been a manufacturer.”

You look at a meticulously detailed sculpture and you say to yourself, “There must have been a sculptor.”

You look at a massive bridge spanning a large body of water and you say to yourself, “There must have been an engineer.”

You look at a tall building and you say to yourself, “There must have been a builder.”

You look at a complex computer program and you say to yourself, “There must have been a programmer.“

You look at a well-written best-selling novel and you say to yourself, “There must have been an author.”

You look at the human body and say to yourself, “This must have been the product of an accident. A long time ago absolutely nothing from absolutely nowhere exploded and not only created absolutely everything, but also created order and it all occurred as a random accident.“

If this is you, then this is your day: HAPPY APRIL FOOL’S DAY!

The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God” (Psalm 14:1).

Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words (Proverbs 23:9).

A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge is easy to one who has understanding (Proverbs 14:6).

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes (Proverbs 12:15).

The foolishness of God is wiser than men (1 Corinthians 1:25).

God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise (1 Corinthians 1:27).

The wisdom of this world is foolishness before God (1 Corinthians 3:19).

A natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them (1 Corinthians 2:14).

The word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God (1 Corinthians 1:18).

They believe they’ve got a “cool” place to “experience” God

They believe they’ve got a “cool” place to “experience” God.
When a man-centered church is marketed like a business you get church advertisements like: “Experience the difference.”

At the following social club you will enjoy live music, dramas, and “relevant” practical messages while wearing your favorite pair of jeans. The coffee is hot so grab a donut, kick back and listen to awesome live music and you’re going to hear a message of hope.

How Will I Know?

We do not grow into a spiritual relationship step by step— we either have a relationship or we do not. God does not continue to cleanse us more and more from sin— "But if we walk in the light," we are cleansed "from all sin" ( 1 John 1:7 ). It is a matter of obedience, and once we obey, the relationship is instantly perfected. But if we turn away from obedience for even one second, darkness and death are immediately at work again.

All of God’s revealed truths are sealed until they are opened to us through obedience. You will never open them through philosophy or thinking. But once you obey, a flash of light comes immediately. Let God’s truth work into you by immersing yourself in it, not by worrying into it. The only way you can get to know the truth of God is to stop trying to find out and by being born again. If you obey God in the first thing He shows you, then He instantly opens up the next truth to you. You could read volumes on the work of the Holy Spirit, when five minutes of total, uncompromising obedience would make things as clear as sunlight. Don’t say, "I suppose I will understand these things someday!" You can understand them now. And it is not study that brings understanding to you, but obedience. Even the smallest bit of obedience opens heaven, and the deepest truths of God immediately become yours. Yet God will never reveal more truth about Himself to you, until you have obeyed what you know already. Beware of becoming one of the "wise and prudent." "If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know . . ." (John 7:17 )." October 10th

R.C. Sproul and Albert Mohler on the topic of “The Gospel.”

John Macarthur Quote

Dr. MacArthur gives a concise clarion call to recover biblical ministry and gospel-centered evangelism to the pragmatic, invitational, Finneyesque, seeker-friendly, seeker-sensible, cool/hip, emerging/emergent, contextualized, gimmick-driven, culturally-relevant-wannabe church leaders of today
in these simple, yet profound words:

"Soft preaching makes hard people;

hard truth produces soft people."
-John MacArthur-

Will It Preach?

So-called Christian preachers are living in extravagant wealth while preaching a self-centered ‘gospel’ of prosperity. Two of the most popular proponents of this false gospel of wealth and self-centeredness are Joel Osteen and Paula White. We’ve taken the artwork for their ‘messages’ and taken them out of their American context to see if they will “preach” in war torn Iraq, Darfur and Rwanda.

Paula White’s message is “Celebrate You”. Joel Osteen’s message is “Your Best Life Now”

Compare this to the Message of Biblical Gospel

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus...” - Romans 3:23-24

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” - John 3:16 -17

Bridge To Live

A Critique of Rob Bell’s Nooma DVD “Dust”

This is seriously frightening.

“For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life: but we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead:”

- Paul the Apostle
(2Co 1:8-9)

Forty Converts, One Saved Quote

“In one heartbreaking incident of modern evangelism, forty converts were contacted as a follow up to their evangelism experience, and only only one person of these forty was found who appeared to be a Christian. So although one lady may have been reached, we must ask ourselves, what were the effects of the encounter on the thirty nine? And this is a questions we must ask ourselves, because some of these people may have left believing their eternal destinies were determined by their decisions, which is a fatal confidence if no change was wrought in their hearts and lives. The others may have concluded that they have experienced all that Christianity has to offer. Failing to feel or see any promised change in themselves, they have become convinced that Christianity is a fake and that those who hold it are either self-diluted fanatics or miserable hypocrites.”
- James Adam

30 Signs You Might Be Emergent

30. Your church has replaced the pulpit with a bar stool (and possibly a bar or your church is in a bar).

29. You once read a good story about some Jewish people and a cross.

28. You engineer every conversation so you are able to use the phrase, “you can’t put god in a box,” and laugh like you’ve said the funniest thing in the word.

27. You make everyone define everything before you begin a conversation. Since this takes forever you never really have a conversation.

26. You think hell is a construct somewhere in Tennessee.

25. You think everything is a metaphor for something else.

24. When you hear the word “Orthodox” all you think about is the great food at the Greek Festival every year.

23. You think “Patristics” is a new brand of snack food.

22. Church history started when your pastor was born.

21. The only Creed you know is a once-popular musical act.

20. You only curse around fundamentalists.

19. You leave your church because the sermon was not obscure enough.

18. You refer to your local assembly as “church,” “synagogue,” or “mosque” depending on who you are talking to.

17. Your blog is a rant about how everyone else rants too much.

16. You brag that you have never been pinned down theologically on any issue.

15. The only thing you are sure of is that others cannot be sure of anything.

14. You bring your own wine to communion.

13. You are offended when someone says they are going to “Preach the Gospel” or “Teach the truth” believing they should just “Tell a story.”

12. Instead of a tract, you carry a can of Play-doh in your back pocket.

11. Your website links to Green Peace and the Democratic National Convention just because conservatives are against it.

10. You start a Christian blog, but leave it blank, fearing that you might offend someone.

9. You are not any good at art, yet you continue to present the Gospel by painting stick figures on recycled paper.

8. When you present the Gospel, Heaven is renamed The Matrix and you call Christ Neo.

7. Your church caters from Whole Foods.

6. Every sermon illustration begins with “The other night I was drinking a beer and . . .”.

5. You have yet to read the book of Romans believing Paul was too modern in his thinking.

4. Your car has a bumper sticker that reads “I think my boss is a Jewish carpenter but I can’t know for certain.”

3. You don’t worship on Sundays because everyone else does.

2. You evaluate truth by asking how many people hold to it. If it is too popular, then it is wrong.

1. When someone calls out your name you get angry saying, “Don’t label me.”

Paul Washer Quotes

“Here stands God on the day of creation. He looks at stars and He says “all you stars move yourself to this place and start in this order and move in a circle and move exactly as I tell you, until I give you another word. Planets-pick yourself up and whirl, make this formation at my command, until I give you another word. He looks at mountains and says “be lifted up” and they obey him. He tells valleys “be cast down” and they obey him. He looks at the sea and says “you will come this far”, and the sea obeys. Then, he looks at you and says “come” and you go “no! Does that bother anyone?”

“People tell me judge not lest ye be judged. I always tell them, twist not scripture lest ye be like satan.”

“The work is hindered. The glory of God is tarnished and it is because the people of God no longer know how to discern the things of God.”

“Ever wonder how the people of God could walk into the temple of God, could offer sacrifices to God could praise God, and then turn right around and find the biggest tree on the highest hill and worship any number of idols, and not be able to tell the difference, and not be able to recognize the wrong, in a mulplicity of gods? Well, I want you to know that is the church in America today. And because the greatest sin among the men of God today is the fear of men which is a snare, and the fear losing economic security and reputation in the denomination.”“As the church runs headlong into judgment today the men of God instead of repenting and crying out and studying God’s word with all their passion are looking for models on how to keep lost people in their congregations and it’s wrong.”

(As American Christians) “We have forgotten how to blush”

“Most of you live your life on flimsy little songs, not upon the word of God.”

“We honor the old prophets, we honor the Tozer’s and Spurgen’s but we don’t want to pay the price they payed, and they payed the price by being men who walked alone who lived with God and who loved his word.”

“What’s the will of God for my life? You don’t need to know the will of God in your life, you need to know the God of your life!”

"Let me go on record as saying that I highly recommend “The Purpose Driven Life” to you. I see nothing unbiblical about making sure that my life is “driven” by purpose....“THREE CHEERS FOR PURPOSE!” I would strongly encourage you, if you haven’t already, to get a copy of Rick Warren’s, “The Purpose Driven Life.” - Scott Distler

Popular Christian TV Host Comes Out of the Closet

**Reader Caution Re: Online Source**

Out and About, a gay online magazine, has a story that needs no elaboration. The war against God, (see Romans 1 on homosexuality) is coming from inside the evangelical church today. Men like Azariah Southworth have turned the truth into a lie to justify their depravity. There are a huge number of young people who are affected by this rebellion.

One Sorry Church

Is the church wrong and judgmental for claiming that abortion and homosexuality are sins and contending against them? Pastor Richard Mark Lee of the Family Church in Sugar Hill, Georgia thinks so. What did he do about it? He apologized to the unchurched for being judgmental during a highly publicized church service.

We think that Pastor Richard should also apologize on behalf of God for destroying the earth by flood because of men's wickedness, destroying Sodom and Gomorah, plaguing the Egyptians and killing their first born, destroying Korah and those who followed him, killing everyone in Jericho, and killing the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel for their false religion.
